Vernon and Eleanor Huber of Lewes are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary Tuesday, June 19.

They were married June 19, 1948, in Yuma, Ariz. Immediately following their wedding, they moved to Wilmington where they resided for many years, raising three sons. Vernon worked as an accountant for a small firm. Eleanor went back to college, graduated with honors and taught elementary school for 30 years.

In 1960, they began camping in the Lewes Beach area on weekends and continued doing so until they built a home in Lewes and moved there permanently in 1990, when Eleanor retired. They have been active members of the Lewes community, volunteering and participating in the many missions and activities of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

They are proud of their three sons, Chris, Steve and Dan; their five grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Matt, Jennifer and Pam; and their four great-grandchildren, Maura, Sean, Rory and Carter.
