Virginia 'Ginny' Knight, had a true sparkle

January 28, 2016

Virginia “Ginny" (Paul) Knight, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, Jan. 27, 2016, at the Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Ginny and her beloved husband, Alan “Punk” Knight, were living at Cadbury at Lewes for the past several years after spending most of their married life in Woodbury, N.J.  Her life centered around Punk and her children (Dan and Wendy), her grandchildren (Michael, Tanner, Caroline and Caitlin), her sister (Betty) and other close relationships with family and friends.

She was born Jan. 7, 1938, to the late Daniel and Ruth (Crowe) Paul.  Ginny grew up in Ardmore, Pa., and graduated as a dietician from the University of Delaware.  Among her favorite times were countless weekends spent with her family in Wildwood Crest, N.J., and then later with Punk at their special Sinking Dock home on Herring Creek in Lewes.

Those who knew Ginny, or just met her once or twice, experienced the sparkle she had to brighten anyone's day.  Although she spent more than 40 years dealing with her physical disability, she was a fighter and overcame so much in her pursuit of living a full life - which she did with a big smile and in search of hugs from anyone.  She was never defined by her physical challenges but by the contagious glow and spirit she had when she met new people or spent time with those she loved.

She brought lots of joy and formed rich relationships with others wherever she went.  From Delaware football games or annual summer vacations in Skowhegan, Maine, amongst her closest friends at the Brown Fingers gatherings or in the dining room at Cadbury, she was a treasured and inspiring light to others.

Ginny’s greatest blessing was her husband and "saint" Punk.  Their marriage was a living daily example of unconditional love.  Ginny’s gratitude for the sacrificial love and care which Punk showed her for their 54 years of marriage was always at the forefront of her mind.  She experienced his love every day through his actions as her champion caregiver.  Ginny and Punk’s marriage and approach to life together has and will continue to be an inspiration to many about how to live a meaningful life with purpose.

As mentioned, Ginny is survived by her husband, Punk; her son, Dan Knight (Judy) of Voorhees, N.J., and grandchildren: Michael and Caitlin Knight; her daughter, Wendy Knight Kuremsky (Michael) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and grandchildren, Tanner and Caroline Kuremsky; her sister, Elizabeth Knapp (Jack) of Medford, N.J.; and nephews: John, Jeff and Jason Knapp.

A Celebration of Ginny's Life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, to honor Ginny’s memory, donations are encouraged to the Transverse Myelitis Association (https://myelitis.org/donate) and the Arthritis Foundation (http://www.walktocurearthritis.org/faf/r.asp?t=4&i=1147624&u=1147624-130...) for the Walk to Cure Arthritis donation page for Ginny’s granddaughter, Caitlin Knight.
