A water main project along Cave Neck Road has created disruptions near the intersections with Hudson Road and Sweetbriar Road near Milton.
Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Charle “CR” McLeod said the work is part of Artesian Water’s regional water main improvement project, and not related to a future project to add a roundabout at the intersection.
In recent days, portions of the road and land adjacent to the road have been dug up for new pipes.
The project resulted in the loss of large pines surrounding a property on two sides. Some trees on the north side of Cave Neck Road were also cleared for the project.
As for the future roundabout project, McLeod said utility relocation work is expected to begin in the first half of next year, and that will require more tree removal. That project will bring Cave Neck Road, Hudson Road and Sweetbriar Road together; there will be five roadways converging at the roundabout.
