We have already defiled our land in Sussex

January 3, 2020

In response to the heartburn and froth caused by the proposed offshore wind-turbine project, may I respectfully suggest that opponents to what might happen in the ocean turn themselves around to see what has already happened on the land - namely, the desecration of the landscape by decades of overbuilding.

Sussex County has encouraged the construction of its own ocean of houses, commercial strips, roads and parking lots.

The loss of farmland, forests, streams and historic sites is staggering. Opponents of the wind turbines talk about visual and environmental damage as if they apply only to the sea, but such harm has for far too long been visited upon the land, also.

Look around, folks, and see the results in your own backyard. Where are the voices against the destruction of our countryside? Do they exist out there? Did they ever?
