Well-worn furniture leads the way in Rehoboth bulk pickup

Bit of everything makes it out during city’s yearly event

It wasn’t your imagination; the residential streets of Rehoboth Beach were filled with extra-large household trash for the last week of April and the first week of May, as the city conducted its annual bulk trash pickup.

The city has been offering the service for years. A couple of years ago, instead of simply driving all the streets every day, officials split the city in half, focusing on the south end of town the first week and then the north the second week.

More often than not, the items that lead the way are well-worn furniture, flat mattresses, rusty grills and lawn care equipment. However, there’s always a random washer and dryer set, a piece of artwork that was probably a present from years ago, some exercise equipment and beach gear.

A quick safety tip to the property owners who live in the area of the city that’s having its trash picked up the second week – if items are left outside the first week, but the city is picking up items on the other side of town, it’s obvious that no one is home.
