What does Embiid have to do?

May 13, 2022

For the second year in a row, Joel Embiid has finished second in the MVP race. Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets has now received this accolade two years in a row. A lot of people aren't happy. Me and Joel included! I don’t understand why Embiid did not win the award this year because Embiid won the regular season scoring title and he played very good defense for the majority of the season. This has been the best season of his career.

And on an even more sour note, for some reason, the 76ers did not show up in Game 5 of their series against the Miami Heat. They showed no defense and weren't passing the ball enough. It was difficult to watch. I just hope I have something positive to report about them next week.

The Philadelphia Phillies have continued with their inconsistent play so far this season. The only player who has had a good start, is outfielder Nick Castellanos who came over from the Cincinnati Reds. He is hitting the ball extremely well. But in order for the team to contend for a playoff spot, they have to give him the support needed and get on a winning streak pretty soon to catch up to the Braves and Mets. If the team does not make the playoffs, I think Joe Girardi might be fired at the end of the season since it is the last year of his contract. No pressure!

At last week’s Kentucky Derby, no one could have predicted that stunning result. It was one of the biggest upsets in the centurylong history of the race. Rich Strike won the race after not being in the field until about 24 hours before the race when another horse had to pull out. Rich Strike actually got off to a bad start too, but was able to absolutely light up about 3/4 of the way around and come from way back in the pack to win the race in a close finish. It was really pretty spectacular to watch and I'm not even much of a racing fan. The owners have decided not to let him run in the Preakness next weekend. I don’t know whether this horse is going to just be a one-hit wonder, but I hope he runs in the Belmont Stakes and makes that race exciting too.
