Where will all the wastewater go?

January 5, 2024

I had similar thoughts as Rick Hazard in his letter about infrastructure regarding Cool Spring Crossing and another huge proposed development.

I read about those developments in the Cape Gazette too.

While Rick talks about the already-insufferable traffic issues we have here, I had another concern. Where is the wastewater going?

In the same paper we read about the proposed developments, I also read a quote that said, "still waiting" regarding a wastewater permit from the state.

Many people do not understand the intricacies of the collection systems here. There is a delicate balance with cooperation among many entities to keep our environment the way it is through wastewater treatment and disposal.

Highly trained and educated individuals work to maintain this balance on a 24-hour basis all over the state.

When plants run to capacity, the alternative is a product that is subpar and a slap in the face to our environment.

Why is no one asking about this? We focus on the roads because we see it every day, and, believe me, I'm sick of the insanity too.

I am asking folks to remember the other parts of infrastructure that you don't notice until they are gone.

No one thinks about their water or where their waste goes until they can't get a drink or do laundry.

Anyway, Rick, thanks for the letter, which inspired me to write this one.
