Willis is a neighbor we can count on

February 27, 2024

Recently, I limped to my car leaning on a crutch. Suddenly, my energetic neighbor appeared. “What’s wrong? What can I do to help?” she asked, truly concerned.

That neighbor was Erin Willis. I believe those are the very questions she will ask if we’re smart enough to vote her in for one of the two vacant seats on the Milton Town Council in the Saturday, March 2, election at the Milton firehouse.

A native Delawarean, Erin is not new to public involvement. She has advocated successfully for teachers to receive equal and fair compensation. For two years, she’s been on the parks and recreation committee. Plus, she’s a regular attendee at town council meetings. Erin cares.

I’ve known her since the day we moved into Cannery Village; she brought over a four-pack of Dogfish Head beer to welcome us. What I’ve learned over the years is that this mother, wife, teacher and neighbor is honest, fair and open-minded. In other words, all the attributes we need for the future of our town, short term and long term.

Erin is committed to the day-to-day needs of Miltonians as well as the long-range goals as we grow and change. She’s studied the comprehensive plan for Milton, and she finds it thoughtful and thorough. If elected as our new town council member, she says she’s committed to make sure it’s carried out to benefit individuals as well as our town.

That’s how she approaches things as a speech-language pathologist at the Sussex Consortium. There, she guides students with disabilities to a better life and makes sure the Sussex Consortium thrives. She listens, observes and implements creative methods and programs.

Don’t we need a young, robust, bright woman from a new generation to infuse her ideas, compassion, energy and love of community to move Milton forward? I offer a resounding yes to electing my neighbor and yours, Erin Willis, to Milton Town Council.
