The Winter Olympics are in full swing

February 16, 2018

It's a good thing it's an Olympic year, because the three weeks between the Super Bowl and March Madness can be pretty boring in the sports world. I will always be a huge Olympics fan because of the amazing experience I had being a torchbearer for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. It was one of most memorable things I have done so far in my life.

I actually like the Summer Olympics more than the Winter games because the winters sports seem so much more dangerous than the summer ones. The skeleton sledding event is just crazy going head first at those speeds. It's hard for me to even watch that.

My favorite event to watch is the speed skating. The fitness level and speed those athletes can get up to on skates is beyond impressive. And yes, I like the figure skating too. I just have to mute the commentators!

The times to watch live have been rough, but there is still a lot more to see. I know there will be a few more worthy performances to mention next week. I will be watching a lot this weekend.

In basketball news, the NBA is finally on their All Star break. I think it is weird that they wait this far into the season to have this event. There are only 23 games left in the regular season.

The 76ers could actually make the playoffs. They are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. I will be surprised if they can win a playoff series this year, but it would be huge progress just to make the playoffs.

In local news, congratulations are in order for the Cape Boys basketball team for continuing their consistent play, and winning an impressive 12 straight games. The state tournament is not that far away. They have two more regular season games. Hopefully they can ride this winning streak right into a state championship tournament run.
