June 23, 2022

The Women’s Club of Milton awarded $2,000 scholarships to three women residing in the Milton area and entering their freshman year in college.

The successful applicants were judged on their academics, community involvement and extracurricular activities. This year, all three recipients are graduates of Cape Henlopen High School.

Samantha Connors was involved in many clubs at school as well as the National Honor Society, logging more than 80 volunteer hours each year. She plans to attend Appalachian State University and major in nursing, then hopes to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. A three-sport student athlete at Cape, Samantha will be playing Division 1 field hockey in college.

Georgia Hitchens plans to pursue a career in the field of engineering. One of her favorite sports to watch is Formula 1 racing. Georgia says she is fascinated with the work that goes into creating a world championship winning car. She has been accepted into the honors program at the University of Delaware. “[Majoring in engineering] will allow me to work toward my dream of becoming a Formula 1 engineer,” she said.

Mackenzie Vitolo will be pursuing a music degree at Towson University. While at Cape, Mackenzie taught middle and elementary school music students through her senior internship. Her extracurricular activities include varsity tennis, basketball, All-State Band and the Delaware Winds semiprofessional orchestra. She hopes to continue her education and earn her master’s degree in conducting.
