Women’s Fest to host health screenings and expo April 26-27

April 15, 2024

CAMP Rehoboth’s Women’s Fest, set for Thursday to Sunday, April 25 to 28, will feature more than just the best in entertainment.

It will also include an expo with a wide array of vendors along with free health screenings conducted by nurses from Beebe Healthcare and Bayhealth Cancer Institute.

This year’s Women’s Fest Expo, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, will be the largest yet, with nearly 60 vendor tables. Offerings include a tempting selection of jewelry, photography, T-shirts, scarves, chocolate, books and artwork. Participating artists include those who use acrylic, watercolor and resin. New this year are a massage therapist, a hair product vendor who will offer demonstrations, and a vendor selling electric bikes.

The expo will also have a section for nonprofit organizations offering information of particular interest to women, such as breast cancer support, sexual assault response and support, and other resources.

Another new feature is a pop-up bookstore open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday. April 26, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. A collaboration between Bywater Books, an award-winning publisher of lesbian books, and a group called Sapphic Literary Pop-Up Bookstore, it will present a variety of novels, memoirs, mysteries and more for purchase. All of the authors on site will do readings and signings and chat with readers.

Local author Fay Jacobs said, “It's going to be exciting to have all of these well-known and much-awarded authors in Rehoboth to engage with their readers and give us a taste of their new works. There are writers coming to town whose work I've read but never met.”

Event organizers are especially grateful to the sponsors who support the CAMP Rehoboth Women’s Fest, and more than a dozen of them will have booths at the expo this year. Some will provide information about the services they offer; others are artisans who will sell their creations.

Beebe nurses will conduct free health screenings Saturday in the mobile health van in the convention center parking lot,  including blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, body mass index, bone density and memory issues. Those interested in tests for BMI or bone density are asked to wear easily removable shoes, as they must be barefoot to complete the tests. Those interested in the blood tests should fast for six hours prior to the screening for the most accurate results. A Beebe women’s health physician will be on site to answer questions and provide information on test results. The Women’s Fest health screenings are part of a partnership between Beebe’s Population Health Outreach team and CAMP Rehoboth Women’s Fest.

A Bayhealth Cancer Institute medical oncology nurse practitioner will perform clinical breast exams from 12 to 4:30 p.m., Friday, at CAMP Rehoboth, 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Clinical breast exams help find abnormalities in breast tissues and play a role in lifelong breast health.
