Worcester Prep use eggs to experiment with force of gravity

March 29, 2026

Leading up to the Easter holiday, Worcester Preparatory School's prekindergarten class conducted two experiments using eggs as the key ingredient.

Both experiments led to a day of fun as students learned about the force of gravity.

Testing the law of inertia, students left an egg to remain at rest until moving a plate from underneath it, allowing gravity to take effect. Removing the plate causes the egg to drop straight down into a cup, as there is no force to change its direction.

In the Humpty Dumpty egg drop challenge, students, with help from their parents, created parachutes from household supplies to protect a hard-boiled egg during a fall and landing. The students dropped their parachutes from the top of the playground equipment to find out each egg stayed intact.
