Summer League recap for the week of July 1, 2019

 

Elementary Division

 

The Dunes continued their march towards the regular season title with a 4-1 victory over the second place Guards on Monday evening. Nina Schrader put the Dunes up by one at the end of the opening half. Layla Conn then contributed three more goals for the Dunes before Catherine Peranteau got the Guards on the scoreboard with 1:13 remaining.

In the second game of the evening, the Tides held on for a 2-1 win over the Waves. Brynn Evick and Penelope Bohl had the opening half goals for the Tides and Emery Hammonds got the late goal for the Waves.

With one full week of play remaining before playoffs the Dunes have a strong lead in the division. Games resume on Monday, July 8th with the Tides vs the Guards and the Dunes vs the Waves. Both games start at 6:00 pm on the turf at Cape Henlopen HS, Champions stadium. League play concludes on Wednesday, July 10th with the playoffs to begin on Monday, July 15th.

Senior Division

The Baffins took a tightly played game from the Pumas by a final of 3-1. Lily Ashby scored to give the Pumas the early lead with her goal at 11:39 of the opening half but Riley Patro scored a pair of goals before half time to put the Baffins in control. Patro finished the night with her third goal at 13:26 in the second half. The loss dropped the Pumas from the division lead. In the second game of the night, the Corals moved into the division lead with a 2-1 win over the Seahawks. Madison Simpson got the Seahawks off to the opening half lead with an early goal at 18:27 but Cami Smith evened the game at 15:40 of the second half and Madi Cook got the game winner at 11:28 remaining in the second half. The final game of the night was a 5-1 win for the Bengals over the Artics. Rylie Cordrey opened the scoring with her first goal at 8:31 in the half followed by a goal by Chloe Whittaker to extend the lead for the Bengals. Avery Congleton finished the first half scoring for the Bengals with her goal at 7:11. Kayleigh Crodrey chipped in another goal for the winners at 9:57 before her sister again scored to put the team up by a five-goal difference. Lacy Bayley scored off an assist from Amanda Sponaugle at 1:33 for the Artics. The win moved the Bengals into a position to gain entry into the championship game if they can sweep the final set of games.

Games resume on Monday, July 8th with the Artics vs the Seahawks, followed by the Pumas vs the Bengals, and finishing the night with the Corals vs the Baffins.
