SAR holds dedication and patriot grave marking

With the marker unveiled by SAR Historian William Richardson, left, on William Peery's grave, Cheryl Vitelli, an elder with Coolspring Presbyterian Church, lays flowers on the grave stone. In 1776 Peery was given the command of a company of soldiers "for the safeguard of the pilots and the persons and goods of other well affected inhabitants residing or being near Lewiston and the coasts of the Delaware Bay." Perry also protected George Washington's camp at Valley Forge. His notable accomplishments as a public servant and statesman include election to the State House for eight sessions; service as a delegate at the Continental Congress; service as the first treasurer of Sussex County; and as an elder of Coolspring Presbyterian Church.
