The Coastal Delaware Running Festival staged April 24 at Tower Road south of Dewey Beach featured 2,055 runners competing in the marathon, half marathon or 9K. The races went off without a hitch in the giddyup of runners or those in neon vests offering race support and manning water stations.
The numbers breakdown for the CoDel ambitious extravaganza was 527 marathoners, 1,011 half marathoners and 517 9K runners.
The top five leaderboard for the marathon was Austin Gee in 2:41:02, Steven Jacobs in 2:45.40, Shawn Marek in 2:50:08, Ryan Jones in 2:58:38 and Dave Delacruz in 2:59:15.
The top five women were Lisa Steffes in 3:11:09, Meaghan Murray in 3:15:10, Jocelyn Neill in 3:25:40, Nicolette Dione in 3:26:07 and Carmon Harvey in 2:26 :33.
The top five half marathon runners were Evan Fallor in 1:20:58, Max Meltzer in 1:26, Matt Streit in 1:26:42, Joey Andrisani in 1:27:34 and Todd Pettyjohn in 1:27:50.
The top five women in the half marathon were Meredith Tulio in 1:32:12, Melissa Lower in 1:34:21, Laura Danberg in 1:36:15, Stephannie Wilson in 1:37:12 and Josie Meckley in 1:39:55.
The top five overall for the 9K race were Patrick Boettcher in 31:35, Jon Tower in 36:44, Vanessa Andes in 38:05, Michele Poppiti in 38:29 and Stacy Pond in 38:56.
The races were staggered at the start in half-hour intervals, beginning with the marathon at 7 a.m. The Baycenter was the common finish line, with the runners identified by the color of the race bib. Route 1 looked like a color run in the final miles, as all three colors of bibs were intermingled like a 1970s Strawberry Alarm Clock album cover.
A conservative estimate of money raised just through entry fees if paid six months early is $137,000, but factoring procrastination of registrants the number is closer to $150,000.
There were hundreds of volunteers on the course, but municipalities and state parks all get paid to support the race.
There are several charitable partners associated with the race.
