Walt Jones Memorial Project kicks off Golf Tournament with Fundraiser

June 1, 2016

The Walt Jones Memorial Project held the Annual Auction Night to benefit Sussex County Habitat for Humanity May 12, at Bethany Blues in Lewes.

A golfer’s tour raffle was offered, with the winner given the opportunity to play some of the area’s courses. The winning ticket will be drawn June 11 at Habitat’s annual summer picnic.

Walt Jones loved golf. As the owner and operator of both the Old Landing Golf Course until 1979 and Midway Par 3 course prior to his passing in 2010, he donated use of the Midway Par 3 Golf Course for Habitat’s annual golf outing since its inception. His family continues his legacy of giving.

Walt’s grandson, Shaun Jones, founded the event in 2005. Shaun single handedly organized the first three golf outings and pre-tournament mixers and mini-auctions. Building on his success, these events have evolved into the Walt Jones Memorial Project, a year long series of community fundraising efforts, organized and supported by a group of dedicated committee members. These events benefiting Habitat now include an annual golf clinic, wine tasting, auction, and golf outing.
