Mariner field hockey downs the Riders 4-0, blanks Woodbridge 1-0

Vikings remain undefeated at 9-0

Mariner Middle School remained undefeated this week with a 4-0 win over Postlethwait Middle School and a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Woodbridge. The victories move the Vikings to 9-0 on the season with just two games remaining.

Reagan Ciabattoni started the scoring for Mariner in the Postlethwait game off a pass from Lori Sapp. Lindsay Rambo took a pass from Sami Jacona and put it in the cage for the second goal. Sydney Jefferson hit the twine for the third goal from an assist from Jacona and the final goal was scored by Jacona unassisted.

The Vikings traveled to Filmore Clifton Stadium in Bridgeville Oct. 26, where Lindsay Rambo scored the lone goal in the win over Raiders.

The Vikings have scored 38 goals this season.

Mariner travels to Laurel Monday, Oct. 31, for a matchup with the Bulldogs then faces district rival Beacon Wednesday, Nov. 2.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
