William H. Tanner Jr., Verizon retiree

William H. Tanner Jr., 77, of Bridgeville, went to his heavenly home Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at the Milford Hospice Center, after a brave battle with cancer. He had recently moved to Delaware to live with family in his final months. 

A lifelong resident of Maryland, Bill had moved to South Carolina to live with his son, Will, who preceded him in death in 2015. He spent three years in the U.S. Army, retired from the Verizon Telephone Company and was enjoying retirement: visiting his four daughters, Darlene Nixon of Salem, Ore., Julie Denney of Bridgeville, Rachel Tanner of Woodbine, Md., and Sarah Dilworth of Charlestown, W.Va. He also leaves his faithful companion Jessie Carr of Aiken, S.C.; his sister Marylou Wilson of Riceville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His bubbly personality and positive attitude will be sorely missed.
