Lineup Release and Blog Intro

Welcome to Jettyrat’s Firefly blog! 127 days to Firefly as of 2/8/17

Well, we have a lineup, and most people including yours truly were pretty excited to find out who was playing this year. 

Now comes the really good part. Yes we’re all excited to get Twenty One Pilots back (I mean really excited), and Florence killed her headline show last year, but the headliners are not the best part, not even close. The best part is getting to find a ton of new music, to find new bands that you are totally into that you’ve never heard of before. It’s the anticipation of finding a diamond in the rough at the porch stage on a Saturday afternoon while most of your friends are still sleeping off their hangover. If you were lucky enough to see Moon Taxi or Finish Ticket last year you know what I mean. And if you don’t hopefully this blog will help you find them this year.

The plan is to not only talk about the bands and the lineup as we lead up to Firefly, we’ll reminisce about previous years, intersperse some general info about the festival including what's new this year. Talk about the real life experience of GA, VIP, and Super VIP wristbands. Things to make sure you see/experience if you've never been before, discuss the phenomenon of good new bands not being good at Firefly, and the inevitable dilemma of two bands playing at the same time. The total awesomeness of the treehouse stage and assuming all goes as planned we will mix in some interviews as well.

So you might be wondering what my credentials are for writing this blog and the short answer is simply that I love music and I can’t believe our tremendous good fortune to have something as amazing as Firefly in our backyard. I’m super excited to share my passion with you. Plus I asked if I could and they said yes! WOOT!

But if it helps I build playlists for the show that go above and beyond the Official Firefly Spotify Mix(link below), which I’ll share as we get closer. I have been to Firefly the last three years and have learned how to get the most out of my four days. I also played bass for a band that was a Friday night headliner at SXSW so I have more than just a radio listening knowledge of music. So come along for the ride and invite your friends.
