Kevin Thomas Ryan, 70, of Milton, beloved husband of Maryann (King) Ryan, died very peacefully at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, where he had been a patient in recent weeks.

Kevin was born in Washington, D.C., attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, St. John's College High School, and graduated in 1969 from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., where he majored in physical education and English.

He taught school in Fairfax County, Va., before moving to Milton. He worked for Southern States in Nassau, and later for Lebanon and Royster-Clark LLC. He retired from Sussex Conservation District in Georgetown in December 2016.

Kevin served as president of the Twinkle Dance Club, president and treasurer of the Milton Lions Club, and, for several years, he volunteered for Sussex County Return Day.

Kevin loved his family, his friends, nature and his boat, but most of all he loved his wife of 47 years, Maryann.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Ryan; and his brother, John Ryan Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Maryann; his brother, Michael Ryan and wife Trixie and their children, Kathleen Walker and Quentin Ryan; and the children of his brother John, Daniel Ryan, MaryJo La France and Julia Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, May 23, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A time of visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until noon. Interment will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Flowers are accepted, however, the family suggests making a memorial in Kevin's name to the charity of your choice.
