August 12, 2017

Rehoboth Beach voters will go to the polls Saturday, Aug. 12 to choose a mayor and two commissioners.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rehoboth fire hall with results following after the polls close.

Running for mayor are incumbent Sam Cooper, seeking his 10th term in office, and Commissioner Paul Kuhns, who also challenged Cooper in 2008. In that race, Cooper defeated Kuhns 675-534, or 55 percent to 44 percent.

In the commissioner race, incumbent Kathy McGuiness is seeking her second term of her second stint as commissioner - she previously served from 2000 to 2013. Also seeking seats are newcomers Susan Gay and Lisa Schlosser, each running for public office for the first time. At least one of the new candidates will become a commissioner; incumbent Lorraine Zellers, declined to run for a fourth term.

All the elected candidates would serve three-year terms and would be sworn in at the commissioners’ Friday, Sept. 15 meeting.

Those wishing to vote absentee should submit a written affidavit to the city administrative offices. Affidavits can be found on the city’s website at www.cityofrehoboth.com. An absentee ballot will be given to the voter upon completion of the affidavit. The deadline for filing to vote absentee is noon, Friday, Aug. 11.
