The Beacon Middle School field hockey team defeated Sussex Academy Oct. 2 with a 6-4 performance. Beacon forward Noelle Sabbagh scored a hat trick for the Vikings, while Dru Buehler tallied two goals and Tia Jarvis picked up one goal. Lily Short, Lily Manlove, Jacqueline Thomas and Melina Kotanides scored for the Seahawks.
The Lady Vikings of Beacon fell 2-1 to the Delmar Wildcats Oct. 4 at home. Sabbagh scored for the lone goal for the Vikings. Macy Bradford and Karli Penrod scored for the Wildcats.
The Vikings of Beacon will travel to Georgetown Middle School Monday, Oct. 9, for a game with the Knights.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
