Bicyclists have the right to travel on roads

October 13, 2017

The Cape Gazette made a serious error in titling a recent letter. It implies or gives the impression that the bicyclists were not following the rules of the road. In fact, they were.

Mr. De Cerchio should address his concerns with DelDOT and/or the city of Lewes. On a two-lane road with a bicycle lane, the bicyclist has as much right to the travel lane as the car. The bicyclist should not keep to the far right where it is dangerous. The road needs to be widened for bicycle lanes.
A new Delaware law was supposed to be signed into law Oct. 4 providing more protection for bicyclists.

I have not seen anything in the Cape Gazette about this law (but then I don't read every edition), but you can read about it here.
