Turnstone Builders adds two experienced staffers

August 17, 2011

Turnstone Builders LLC has expanded its staff in anticipation of continued rapid growth in its residential construction and remodeling businesses.

The new professionals, Kelly Kalb and Carlos Centeno, are diversely talented individuals with decades of experience in construction processes as well as personal philosophies that drive them to push for high standards in all that they do, said Harvey Ryan, a managing director at Turnstone. The custom-home builder, based in Rehoboth Beach, combines the sophistication of a large builder and the responsiveness and flexibility of a small custom builder to create signature homes for its customers.

“We’re thrilled to have found individuals of this caliber who understand our vision and bring to the table tremendous skills, knowledge and work ethic,” he said.

Located in the former Abizak’s building on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach, Turnstone Builders is a rapidly growing builder of custom homes that is setting new standards in coastal construction by erecting homes that are not only beautiful but also designed to withstand the forces of nature - or as Ryan prefers to say, homes that the forces of nature respect.

Kalb graduated with honors from Delaware Technical & Community College’s Architectural Engineering Technologies associate degree program. She’s a team leader with superb organizational and multitasking skills. She holds a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University.

Since 2009, she worked as a computer-aided design operator and designer in her own company, Fresh Air Architectural Drafting & Design. She also has 13 years of experience as co-owner of a local custom home builder.

Kalb’s education, coupled with her experience in the custom home industry, makes her the perfect fit. She brings great strength to the back office and enhances Turnstone’s up-and-coming design center and showroom.

Kalb will support the staff in coordinating resources to ensure the timely completion of all phases of the construction process. She will use CAD technology to afford Turnstone clients flexibility and choice in their home design.

Centeno is the consummate master craftsman, with almost 30 years of experience building high-end homes in Delaware and New Jersey. Though he is experienced in all aspects of construction, he excels at constructing exquisite custom cabinets, mantels, crown molding and trim work.

He worked for seven years with a local builder in Sussex County, where he managed staff and subcontractors. Previously, in New Jersey, he led the field staff in the restoration of a historic library and county school.

“The upside of the current building slump is that sometimes craftsmen like Carlos become available. He’s a perfectionist, and his keen eye for detail makes him a perfect lead craftsman for our team,” said Don Stewart, the second of three Turnstone managing directors. “We prefer to stay ahead of the growth curve with our staffing, and Carlos definitely increases our capacity to grow responsibly.”

Centeno will guide and collaborate with the Turnstone team of in-house carpenters on all projects as they strive to provide a hassle-free construction experience for their customers in coastal Delaware.
