Marjorie S. Pettit, retired manager
Marjorie S. Pettit, 83, of Georgetown passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
Mrs. Pettit was born the daughter of the late Grover J. and Madelyn (Corey) Sammons. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Elizabeth Phillips and Dr. Carl Maschauer for 20 years, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Pettit was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Mrs. Pettit was a volunteer in her daughter's kindergarten class for several years. She enjoyed reading and family outings at their summer cottage. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Cornell, and Joseph Sammons; and two sisters, Marian Spencer and Ruth Knapp.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edward C. Pettit; a son, Edward H. Pettit and his wife Jacquelyn of Milford; a daughter, Jane Pettit Scheftner of Lewes; two sisters, Esther Scaggs of Lewes and Dorothy Sammons of Georgetown; and two stepgrandchildren, Todd Hosmer Jr. and Lianne Hosmer.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday. Aug. 31, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Conley's Church Cemetery in Angola. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
