The C&C Alpaca Factory on Sweetbriar Road outside Milton celebrated National Alpaca Farm Day Sept. 24, when visitors toured the farm and learned about alpacas.
Christian Addor and Chris Reichard relocated their alpaca farm from New Jersey to the Cape Region in 2010, and they have been enjoying the area ever since.
Originally from Delmarva, Addor said he wanted to move closer to his family and to the beach. Alpacas are low-maintenance animals, he said, so raising them is easier than raising other animals. Land is not a major problem because eight to 10 alpacas can live on a single acre, he said. Addor and Reichard have three acres on Sweetbriar and where they are raising a small herd of young and adult alpacas. The farm is also home to a llama, two horses and several cats.
National Alpaca Farm Day gave the pair a chance to show off the beauty of the animals and the fleece they sheer once a year. The farm features a shop where yarn and alpaca fleece products are for sale.
Mason Couchman, 4, of Georgetown, feeds the alpacas during farm day activities.
