Rehoboth Bandstand committee to meet Mar. 1
The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, Convention Center and Special Events Committee has scheduled a meeting for 1 p.m., Friday, March 1, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for a presentation by police Chief Keith Banks on the city’s new special-events ordinance, reports on convention center bookings and Bandstand activities, and a discussion on the committee name and mission.

Lewes budget meeting set March 4
Lewes Mayor and City Council will continue work on the fiscal year 2020 budget at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, at city hall. Rehoboth commissioner workshop set March 4
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, March 4, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for presentations by DNREC’s Delaware Coastal Programs and Rehoboth Beach Main Street, and discussions about city lease agreements, the introduction of a mixed-use zone and special events ordinance. Rehoboth budget workshop set March 4
Rehoboth commissioners have scheduled a budget workshop for 1 p.m., Monday, March 4, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on next year’s budget, which begins April 1. Commissioners are expecting to pass the budget during the March 15 commissioners’ meeting. For more information, call 302-227-6181. Milton council to meet March 4
Milton Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, at Milton library, to hold two public hearings and hear four presentations. The first public hearing will be on an amendment to the zoning code that clarifies activities prohibited in all districts. The second will be a public comment period on a proposed charter change related to contracts and supplemental assessments.

Council will hear presentations on the annual financial audit, transportation improvement districts, a Verizon Wireless cell tower and the Delaware Patriot Guard. Discussion will continue on the Magnolia Street drainage project and parking plan, which will include a condition assessment of the bulkhead along the Broadkill River.

In new business, council will discuss a request from Esthelda Parker-Selby, 112-114 Milton-Ellendale Highway, for a lot line adjustment. Council will weigh a partial sidewalk waiver request by Kevin and Lori Morrow, 604 Union St., and a request for design standard modifications by Fernmoor Homes at Heritage Creek.

Finally, council will discuss ordinances on speed limits and no-parking areas, and set a public hearing on a recommendation from the Historic Preservation Commission establishing a historic preservation overlay district.

Rehoboth Beach Patrol pre-employment tests coming
The Rehoboth Beach Patrol has scheduled four pre-employment testing dates for the 2019 season. The time for all four dates is 11 a.m. The location for the first and second testing dates – Sunday, March 17, and Sunday, March 31 – is the Delaware Swim and Fitness Center, 2150 New Castle Ave., New Castle. The location for the third and fourth testing dates – Sunday, April 7, and Sunday, April 14 – is the Milford Boys & Girls Club, 101 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford.

Offshore drilling town hall set in Ocean City Mar. 6
The Ocean City and Ocean Pines Chambers of Commerce will host an informational town hall at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, focused on how Maryland’s business community can comment on the new federal offshore drilling plans that will impact the region’s tourism-based economy.

According to a press release Feb. 24, the panel will include guests from Maryland, Delaware, New York, and Washington, D.C. organizers from Oceana, a leading ocean conservation group. The panel will also include local elected officials, business owners and fishing representatives.

McGuiness to hold town meeting in Georgetown Mar. 6
Delaware State Auditor Kathy McGuiness will hold the first in a series of statewide public town hall meetings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, at Georgetown Public Library, 123 W Pine St.  Attendees can learn about how the Auditor’s Office serves as a resource to identify fraud, waste, and abuse in state government to protect tax dollars.

McGuiness will talk about her ongoing efforts to re-energize and revamp the Auditor’s Office by restoring its funding and staffing to levels not seen in nearly a decade. Water Infrastructure Council to meet Mar. 13
The Delaware Water Infrastructure Advisory Council will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, in Conference Room 400B, Del Tech Terry Campus, 100 Campus Drive, Dover. Native Species meeting reset to March 8 
Delaware’s Native Species Commission will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, March 8, in Room 220 at the Kent County Administrative Building, 555 Bay Road, Dover. The meeting is rescheduled from February’s postponement due to inclement weather.

The commission will discuss operating procedures, 2019 priorities, and subcommittee reports. Public hearing on Bay Vista dredging set Mar. 14
DNREC’s Division of Water, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section has set a March 14 public hearing regarding dredging at Bay Vista Marina in Rehoboth. The public hearing will take place at 6 p.m., March 14, at the DNREC Lewes Field Office, 901 Pilottown Road.

According to a Feb. 21 public notice, Sargio Corporation proposes to mechanically maintenance dredge 3,500 cubic yards of material to a depth of 4 feet below mean low water in the marina basin and to a depth of 6 feet below mean low water in the access channel. The total area of the marina basin to be dredged is 0.65 acres and the total area of the access channel is 0.11 acres.

The disposal area is directly adjacent to the marina to the north, which is owned by Sargio Corporation. The public notice says the area is 0.34 acres in size and will be prepared by excavating a 2- to 3-foot-deep cut and using the excavated material to create a 4-foot-high berm around the site. Silt fencing will also be placed around the bermed area. Following placement of the dredge spoil in the disposal site, the material will be allowed to dewater and will then be stabilized by leveling, capping with upland soil on top, and seeded.

Lewes mayoral candidates may file through Apr. 4
Lewes will begin accepting candidates to run in the May mayoral election Friday, March 1. Mayor Ted Becker’s seat is the only one up for election in 2019. The seat has a three-year term. The last day to file is Thursday, April 4. Anyone interested in running must meet the requirements set forth by the city’s charter. Applications are available at www.ci.lewes.de.us
