Clear Space offers ‘The Wedding Singer’ through Aug. 27

July 26, 2019

Clear Space Theatre’s production of “The Wedding Singer” is running through Tuesday, Aug. 27, on a rotating schedule with two other summer repertory shows: “Hello Dolly!” and “Mamma Mia!” Shows begin each Monday through Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.

The wedding singer is Robbie, played by Brody Grant: A handsome underdog, jilted at the altar and now pining after the lovely Julia, played by Jana Jackson. She’s a winsome waitress about to be married – to someone else. Based on the hit 1998 Adam Sandler movie of the same name, “The Wedding Singer” demonstrates, once again, that true love never runs smooth. But fear not! This is summer at the beach: Love wins.

Clear Space newcomer Grant is reveling in the experience. “I’m thrilled I get to play this role throughout the whole summer! I enjoy it every time; it has a lot of versatility, and as Robbie, I can just bring my fullest, goofiest self to the part. Of course, it has its challenges, chiefly, preserving, and then expending, the physical energy the role requires. And it’s vocally demanding, too. I literally try to rest my voice each day I’m to perform the role, up till that curtain goes up.”

Jackson, also making her Clear Space debut, is having a great time playing Julia. “The part I enjoy most is embodying Julia’s quirkiness! I grew up watching the movie, and am thrilled to be playing the role one of my film faves, Drew Barrymore, created. The most challenging part – all the quick changes! Which isn’t to say it isn’t taxing emotionally, physically and vocally, but this show has allowed me to have so much fun. I am so grateful that Clear Space has blessed me with this chance to do what I love.”

Both Grant and Jackson are confident audiences will love the show. Grant said, “The script is hilarious, the music is really fun and catchy, and hey! It’s a love story for an underdog – pretty much everyone can relate to that. Add to that the energy and magic the cast brings to each and every performance. The show is just exciting to watch.”

Jackson describes that energy as electric. She said, “The audience is having as much fun as we are! The script, the direction, the choreography – and the love the cast puts into every number – well, it just communicates itself to and through everyone there. People leave grinning; if you need a good laugh, this show’s for you!”

Tickets for all performances are $17-$32 and may be purchased online at www.clearspacetheatre.org or by calling the box office at 302-224-2270.
