Joyce I. Mest, retired nurse

Joyce I. Mest, 78, of Dover, and formerly of Long Neck and Green Lane, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, in Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Joyce was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Vera Cruz, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Queenie Weidner; and a brother William Weidner.

Joyce enjoyed being a nurse, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed taking trips, cruising, boating, fishing, crabbing and was an avid poker player.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 58 years Roy Mest; children David Mest and spouse Nancy Mest, Joanne Mayer and spouse Paul Mayer, Debra Royer and spouse Dwight Royer, Kenneth Mest and spouse Colleen Mest, Douglas Mest and spouse Mark Pelekakis; grandchildren Nicholas Royer and spouse Melissa Clymer, Alyssa Pepper and spouse Fred Pepper, Nathan Royer and spouse Elizabeth Royer, Stacy Mest and fiance Andrew Churchill and Patrick Mest; and a great-grandchild Isaac Royer.

Her family would like to thank the ICU of Kent General Hospital for the care she was given during her illness and for all the prayers and wishes from all of her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Westminster Village in Dover, at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest a donation to Westminster Village, 171 Westminster Drive, Dover, DE 19904 in her memory.
