David Lawrence Fern, loved family, God

July 4, 2020

David Lawrence Fern, 82, of Millsboro entered eternal rest Monday, June 29, 2020. He was born Oct. 26, 1937, to Maxine (nee Sherratt) and Lawrence Fern. He was the eldest of their six children. He grew up in Greenbelt, Md., and was drafted into the Army after high school.

He went on to become a union electrician for IBEW Local 26 out of Washington, D.C. After his retirement in 1997, he moved to Millsboro where he found his second family at East Gate Presbyterian Church. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; sister Maxine; and daughter Colleen Fern.

He is survived by his loving siblings: William (Linda) Fern of Florida, Margaret (Wally) Brunatti of Bridgeville, Kathy (Harry) James of Bethany Beach and Patrick Fern of Georgia. In addition to his siblings, he is survived by his children; Curt (Wanda) Fern of Arnold Md., Carrie Jo (George) Hunter of Edgewater, Md., and Celeste Russell of Chesapeake, Va. Dave was also blessed with nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dave loved his family, his God and his Ledo’s Pizza. His larger-than-life personality and tell-it-like-it-is opinions will be sorely missed.

Due to COVID restrictions a memorial service will be held at his church a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dave’s honor to East Gate Presbyterian Church, 34806 Church Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966.
