Delaware Freedom 12U playing games in Maryland

The Delaware Freedom 12U softball team coached by Chuck Hudson played in the Delaware State Championships July 4 weekend. The tournament was held in Salisbury, Md., which has less-restrictive rules than Delaware.

The Freedom defeated Diamond State Swoop 27-2, then lost to Delaware Fury 9-2. Freedom was eliminated by Delaware Magic 12-11 in extra innings. 

Here are the stats thru nine spring games (four played before the shutdown) as provided by coach Hudson, who was the statistician for the Cape girls’ basketball team. All players are from Sussex County.

No. 99 Hayden Hudson, first base, Beacon Middle – .636 batting average, three doubles, three triples, 12 RBIs

No. 16 Abi Crouch, second base, Mariner Middle – .500 BA, 10 RBIs

No. 32 Delainie Monitzer, catcher, Sussex Academy – .444 BA, three doubles, one triple, eight RBIs

No. 7 Celina Sordi, third base, Sussex Academy – .353 BA, two doubles

No. 2 Brie Sordi, CF, Sussex Academy

Other Sussex County players

No. 22 Madison Myers, outfielder, Laurel Middle – .391 BA, three doubles, two triples, 12 RBIs

No. 13 Bella Marinelli, second base, Worcester Prep – .467 BA

No. 4 Anna Wiest, outfielder, Selbyville Middle

No. 14 Zoe Quillen, pitcher, Selbyville – 31 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched.
