Many of us know what “drinking the Kool-Aid” means. But perhaps some don’t get it.
A religious cult leader named Jim Jones led followers from California to a site in the jungle in Guyana in South America. There, as his mental state deteriorating, he decided over 900 of those followers should commit suicide by drinking Kool-Aid laced with poison.
So most of the followers obliged and died. They even willingly killed their babies. Finally, the rotting bodies were airlifted to Dover to handle.
At this time, during a highly contagious pandemic, another leader has actively and knowingly discouraged doing the most important things to avoid infection, wearing a face mask and social distancing.
This leader has held many infection-spreading rallies with thousands of people and indoor parties, all where most attendees do not wear masks or social distance.
Like Jim Jones’ obliging followers, this leader’s followers are also obliging, deserting common sense, and risking illness and possible death for themselves and their vulnerable loved ones just to please this leader.
In addition, this leader is encouraging radical citizens to arm for assassination and terror attacks if he does not get his way just as Jim Jones also did.
We may be concerned about ISIS and Al-Qaeda, both cults where the followers will willingly “drink the Kool-Aid.” But what about our cult followers in America?
