Beebe Healthcare To Hold Public Town Hall on Thursday; Outdoor Christmas Events Dominate the Weekend
It’s the weekend before Christmas in Delaware and Maryland’s coastal regions and that would normally mean all kinds of fun things to see and do at and near the beaches.
But 2020 doesn’t want to release its grip on us just yet, as new coronavirus related restrictions have all but cancelled any indoor activities that were scheduled over the next few days.
That sadly includes all of the weekend shows scheduled for the Milton Theatre, which has announced that it will be closed indefinitely due to new health protocols that were put in place last week by Delaware Gov. John Carney.
These mass cancellations have left us in a bit of a sticky situation as we attempt to keep our weekend events blog up and running during the holiday season. And we’re still committed to do just that, so here we are.
We do still have a few things to tell you about for this weekend, but each and every one of them is going to be held either virtually or outdoors. Most indoor events just aren’t going to be happening for the foreseeable future, something we’re going to have to adapt to for the rest of December and into January and likely beyond.
But for now, let’s focus on what is happening this weekend and how you can still experience as much Christmas joy as possible here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.
But before we get into the Christmas stuff, we begin with an important public service announcement from Beebe Healthcare.
Beebe Virtual Town Hall (December 17). Most of us are pretty COVID-19 weary at this point and would like nothing better than a return to our normal pre-pandemic lives. With that growing sentiment in mind, Beebe Healthcare is holding a special virtual town hall on Thursday, December 17, from 4 to 5 p.m.
A good portion of this one-hour event will focus on questions related to the new vaccine that’s now making its way into Delaware and every other state in the country.
Answering questions from the public will be Beebe Healthcare President and CEO David Tam and Medical Director Bill Chasanov, who will each share the latest COVID-19 related updates regarding new cases, hospitalizations and information about the new vaccine.

Live Nativity on The Circle in Georgetown (Through Christmas Eve). Several local houses of worship have come together this holiday season to bring the “Live Nativity on The Circle” back for a second year, with plans on running through Christmas Eve.
The seven-night event kicks on this Friday, December 18, and will continue every night through the 24th between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
The live nativity scene is being held with the support of the Town of Georgetown, which approved the plan in early December. Members of several churches are expected to participate in 2020.
While there’s no charge to view the nativity scene, organizers are asking for donations on behalf of the Sussex Pregnancy Care Center and the Sussex County Foster Parent Association.
In addition to monetary donations, items like diapers, school supplies, sanitary wipes and children’s clothing are also needed and appreciated.
Everyone coming out to view the nativity scene this year will also be treated to hot chocolate, courtesy of the ladies at the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.
A special candlelight service will be held at the site on Christmas Eve, led by Pastor Woody Bates from First Baptist Church in Georgetown.
Milford Drive Through Santa Visits (December 18-20). This weekend will be your last chance to see Santa in Milford, as he will return to the North Pole after Sunday, December 20, to prepare for his long journey around the world on the 24th.
But fret not, the big man is scheduled to be in Milford on Friday, December 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday, December 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
You can visit Santa in Milford during this unorthodox Christmas season by visiting the Town of Milford’s customer service center, located at 119 South Walnut Street downtown. Santa will greet everyone via the drive thru window, in order to keep everyone safe and healthy this holiday season.
“Traffic elves” will be on-site all weekend to assist visitors. Santa visits are free, but donations are accepted and appreciated.
