Cape boys’ swimming strong in prep for 2020-21 season

January 5, 2021

The Cape boys’ swim team is looking to improve on last season’s 8-4 record and fifth-place showing in the Henlopen Conference Meet. There are six returning seniors pounding the water to prepare for a successful conference season.

Seniors returning to the pool are Thomas Weeks, Tommy Taylor, Sam Schoenfeld, L.B. Harrington, Liam Leishear and Doug Heid.

“After a solid season last year with a relatively young team, I think we’re coming into 2021 with an older and more-developed squad,” Heid said. “We’ve got a deep team with a lot of standout swimmers.”

“I think the team has got a good chance at the gold this year,” said returning junior Marcus Gromofsky. “We have a lot of good freshmen this year coming up, and a lot of seniors looking to break some records and win conferences, so I think even through the chaos, the team’s got a good chance of beating the odds.”

“I think that we have the potential to have a great season,” said Cape head coach Bill Geppert. “It's all up to them. We have to work hard. Like the saying goes, the only place the word success comes before work is in the dictionary. If they work hard, the sky is the limit.”

The Vikings will open the season Friday, Jan. 15, against Polytech at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center.
