Francis E. McAroy Jr., cherished his family

Francis E. McAroy Jr., 81, of Lewes, formerly of Gloucester City, N.J., passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Beebe Healthcare, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Francis E. Sr. and Foye (White) McAroy.

Mr. McAroy attended Gloucester Catholic High School and graduated in 1959. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting in 1959 and retiring in 1994 as a master sergeant. Following his military service, Mr. McAroy built a 30-year long career at Paco Pharmaceuticals in Lakewood, N.J. He spent the last 15 years working for Wawa in Lewes. Mr. McAroy was a hard worker, working until the day he passed. 

Above work, Mr. McAroy’s passion was his family, and he was their biggest fan. He never missed his grandchildren's football games, choir, band concerts, dance recitals, field hockey games, lacrosse games, ROTC events. He was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan. He cherished Sunday dinners with his family, and his infectious smile would always light up the room.

Mr. McAroy’s heart was kind and his character strong; he led by example to live every day to the fullest. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend Mr. McAroy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mr. McAroy is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine R.(McQuillan) McAroy; his grateful children: Christina McAroy and Brenda Ellebracht of Palm Bay, Fla.,  Frank (Lori) McAroy of Lewes, Colleen (John) Barrett of Lewes, and Cheryl McAroy of Lewes; his beloved grandchildren: Justin and Jeremy Ellebracht of Palm Bay, Lilly McAroy of Lewes, John Bridget, Thomas Barrett, Scott Wolk, and Hannah Wolk, all from Lewes; his brother Richard (Barbara) McAroy of Harrah, Okla.; his dear brothers-in-law: Robert McQuillan of Medford Lakes, N.J., Charles Rambo of Melbourne, Fla., and Edward Underwood of Millsboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
