Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding seeks donations March 4-5

Nonprofit participating in Do More 24 Delaware
February 24, 2021

Like many nonprofit groups, Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding’s fundraising activities were seriously curtailed in 2020, leaving an impact that is still being felt throughout the organization.

Alternative methods of support are more important than ever. Do More 24 Delaware is a huge one-day, statewide fundraising event that focuses attention on supporting nonprofits like SDTR. Donation recipients qualify for matching funds.

To donate online from 6 p.m., Thursday, March 4, to 6 p.m., Friday, March 5, go to domore24delaware.org and search Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding.

SDTR has made invaluable contributions to the local community since 1988. Its unique mission is to improve the physical and emotional well-being of children and adults with disabilities by providing a supportive environment for individuals and their families through riding, caring for and interacting with horses. Due to COVID-19 precautions, SDTR has been unable to conduct in-person fundraising activities to offset the losses from being unable to offer riding lessons. This makes initiatives like Do More 24 so very important.

A major consideration for SDTR is delivering the best care possible for the therapy horses. A major project awaiting funding is construction of new run-in sheds for the farm pastures. These are sheds constructed with an open side, allowing grazing horses to freely go in and out to seek shade on sunny days, or shelter from rain or snow. Run-in sheds provide an efficient, cost-effective means to improve the care of horses, some of SDTR’s most valuable assets.
