Dewey commissioners meet March 12
Dewey Beach commissioners will meet virtually at 2 p.m., Friday, March 12. Members will possibly vote to approve an ordinance to adopt the definition of “persons,” to change police staffing levels and to approve the 2022 fiscal year budget. Commissioners may also vote to approve members on the board of adjustment, planning and zoning commission, and marketing committee. 14th RD Dems to meet March 24
The 14th RD Democratic Committee has changed its March meeting date from March 10 to Wednesday, March 24; the Zoom meeting will run from 5 to 6 p.m. Area Democrats who plan to attend should email Committee Secretary Cheryl Fruchtman, c.fruchtman@comcast.net.
The featured speaker will be 14th District Rep. and Speaker of the House Pete Schwartzkopf, who will give an update on recent legislative actions during the current session.
The committee also will be electing the 14th District’s delegates to attend the State Convention, which will be held for the purposes of electing the State Party Executive Committee. Any registered Democrat who resides in the 14th Representative District and has not been a registered member of another party within a year can run to be elected as a delegate.

Rehoboth shade tree commission to meet
The Rehoboth Parks & Shade Tree Commission has scheduled a special meeting for 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 10.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide commission members with training on city code relating to trees, and on the process of hearing and deciding appeals. This meeting will be conducted online, but there will be no public comment accepted.

Rehoboth planners meeting canceled
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Friday, March 12, has been canceled. In a statement March 4, Chair Jeff Trunzo said the meeting was canceled because there were no agenda items.
Rehoboth infrastructure committee to meet
The Rehoboth Beach Trees & Green Infrastructure Committee will meet online at 10 a.m., Friday, March 12.
The agenda calls for continued discussion on Arbor Day 2021 and an overview of the city commissioner discussion on revisions to the city’s tree code.

Henlopen Acres commissioner to meet
The Henlopen Acres Board of Commissioners has scheduled an online meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, March 12. For an agenda and details on how to participate in the meeting, go to henlopenacres.delaware.gov.
The Point closed for nesting season March 1
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park closed for the season March 1. The area includes a stretch of ocean beach and dunes, and a half-mile along the bay shoreline.
The Point has closed annually since 1993 for the benefit of threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds.
The Point’s nesting habitat on the ocean side will reopen Sept. 1. The bayside beach will remain closed until Oct. 1. For more information, contact Cape Henlopen State Park at 302-645-8983 or stop by the park office.
Lewes historic preservation to meet
The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 9. The group will consider a request for the demolition of a dwelling and construction of a new home at 315-17 W. Fourth St. Commissioners will also hear a request for the renovation of 122 Beebe Ave., and a request for the construction of an enclosure for an outside covered patio at 111 Bank St. Also on the agenda is the first discussion of the development of an ordinance to establish criteria for review of historic artifacts in the cultural/historic zone. Lewes Pickleball Facility Subcommittee to meet
The Lewes Pickleball Facility Subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 10. The group will discuss possible sites, including near the Osher Lifelong Learning Center, Seagreen Bicycle Shop and Cape Henlopen State Park. Lewes Planning Commission to meet
The Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 11. The group will discuss a proposed resiliency ordinance pertaining to sea-level rise and an ordinance to amend the source water protection overlay of the excellent recharge area. Artesian plant on Sussex P&Z agenda
Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 11, in the Carter Partnership Center at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on a conditional-use application filed by Artesian Wastewater Management Inc. for an expansion and amendment to conditions of an application for a sewage treatment plant on the east side of Isaacs Road west of Milton approved on July 31, 2007.

Cape school board to hold workshop March 11
The Cape Henlopen school board will hold a workshop meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 11, at H.O. Brittingham Elementary in Milton. Members will hear presentations on several board policies, and will take possible action on a facility-use fee waiver for Alpha Kappa Alpha Society.
