Nanticoke Powwow, Hispanic Fest, Boardwalk Arts Festival Kick Off Busy Fall Season

September 8, 2021

This weekend marks the beginning of one of our favorite times of the year here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches. That's right, it's time for the kickoff of "Fall Festival Season" for 2021!

The coastal region will be hopping over the next few weeks, as dozens of fun local festivals are returning for 2021 after a very scaled down season a year ago.

This special time of year always kicks off the weekend after Labor Day with a couple of the region's signature events, namely the annual Nanticoke Indian Powwow and the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival.

Add to that the 2021 Hispanic Festival and a ton of other local events and activities and this weekend shapes up to be an incredible start to the fall season.

Read below for much more on what's happening this weekend at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

We kick things off for the 2021 festival season with one of our annual favorites - the always colorful and enjoyable Nanticoke Indian Powwow.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Nanticoke Indian Powwow (September 10-12)

Due to the growing popularity of the event, the annual Nanticoke Indian Powwow will be held this year for the first time at Hudson Fields near Milton.

Scheduled for Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on both Saturday and Sunday, this is the 43rd year for the popular post Labor Day festival, an event which generally kicks off "Fall Festival Season" in southern Delaware.

Events for 2021 include a pig roast, drumming and dancing sessions, vendors and quite a bit more. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for visitors between 11 and 17 years of age. Children 10 and under get into the powwow for free.

More than 40 Native American tribes from across the country are expected to attend the powwow this year.

Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival (September 11)

Also being held for the 43rd year, like the Nanticoke Powwow featured above, the 2021 Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival is scheduled for this Saturday, September 11, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Planned events include a live radio broadcoast from 10 a.m. until noon, a silent auction, live music, artists,  vendors and more.

The Boardwalk Arts Festival, as the name implies, is held on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk and serves as a fundraiser for arts programs featured at five area schools.

Schools being aided by the festival this year include the Southern Delaware School of the Arts, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, Selbyville Middle School, Lord Baltimore Elementary School and John M. Clayton Elementary School.

Maxima Hispanic Fest (September 12)

The wildly popular Hispanic Festival returns to downtown Georgetown for 2021, with a wide range of activities planned for this Sunday, September 12, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Sponsored this year by the Voice Radio Network, the festival takes place on North Race Street, in the Kimmeytown section of the Sussex County Seat.

Scheduled activities include traditional arts and crafts, a wide selection of Latino cuisine, live music, dancing and a celebration of the Hispanic culture.

The event usually draws a large crowd numbering in the tens of thousands, so consider getting there early to get a good parking spot and to enjoy the festival before it gets too crowded.
