Be seen. Be heard

I can no longer sit on the sidelines when it comes to the overdevelopment that is taking place outside of Lewes. We have lived in this area for seven years; however, my husband’s family has owned a beach house one block from the bay since 1963. So, we are acutely aware of the dramatic changes taking place, particularly in recent years.

When discussing concerns regarding the overdevelopment in the area, those who are new to the area respond that they feel their voice doesn’t count, or that they don’t have the right to express their concerns because they are “part of the problem.”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

If you are a new resident to the area, your voice does count!

We need your numbers to help us combat the clear cutting of the forests and the destruction of natural wetlands. We need you to help save the very reason all of us made the move here and are now an invested part of the community.

Whether you relocated here three years ago or settled on your new home yesterday, you are part of the community and a conservator of the natural resources that make Sussex County so attractive.

Please, get involved and help us preserve the natural beauty and wildlife of the area. Your voice matters, your vote matters, your objections count.

On Thursday, Jan. 27, Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will hear a case to clear-cut 95 acres of pristine woodland and large areas of wetlands to build 315 homes that will dump out onto Robinsonville Road near Webb’s Landing Road. If you live in this area, you know that Robinsonville Road is already under assault from other large subdivisions approved and under construction. On Friday, Jan. 21, one week before the hearing, you will be able to see the proposed site plan and application by going to the Sussex County Planning & Zoning website. If you can, plan to attend the meeting. If you can’t attend, at the end of the link is information on how to view (livestream) and call into the meeting. At the very least, after reviewing the application and site plan, please email the commission to state your objections before 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27.
