State Auditor Kathy McGuiness files for re-election

Delaware State Auditor Kathy McGuiness, a Delaware native, made her candidacy for re-election official by filing with the Department of Elections.

“I know my mission,” McGuiness said. “When I first ran for state auditor, I pledged a new chapter for your independent Auditor’s Office to make sure Delaware taxpayers get a fair deal.”

Elected in 2018 as the first female state auditor in Delaware history, McGuiness worked during her first term to improve transparency in the First State. McGuiness launched several initiatives, including Project: Gray Fox, which tracks over $1.55 billion in COVID relief, and the annual Risk Assessment Survey that encourages state employees to report instances of fraud, waste and abuse; and identified nearly a billion dollars in government efficiency savings and potential revenue for the State of Delaware.

“I am proud of the work our office achieved during my first term, but with billions of dollars allocated for COVID relief, and an ever-increasing state budget, now more than ever there is work to do. Since announcing in September, the feedback is loud and clear. Delawareans up and down the state strongly encourage me to run for re-election and continue fighting on their behalf,” McGuiness said. “Oh, and we’re just getting started.”
