Summer reading program for children and teens underway at Lewes library

June 15, 2022

The Lewes Public Library’s summer reading program has set sail with Oceans of Possibilities for children and teens and a variety of happenings to continue through Thursday, Aug. 4.

The sea-themed summer program features reading challenges for children of all ages. Kids ages 12 and under are invited to attend an end-of-summer celebration and will receive a prize for completing their reading adventure. Teens ages 13 to 18 who enroll in the teen reading challenge will be entered to win a Zap skimboard donated by East of Maui.

To sign up, visit the library during regular business hours.

An exciting lineup of free events and activities is also on deck. In addition to biweekly Monday night outdoor movies for all ages, children and tweens will be treated to performances by a magician, bubble artist, singer and theater groups. Craft days, story times, an author discussion and interactive science workshops will round out the offerings. No registration is required for the movies or children’s programs.

For details, visit the library or go to lewes.lib.de.us/children.

For kids ages 10-16, the library will offer a weekly outdoor sports series. For teens ages 13-17, special evening activities will include a book club, paint night, games, a Nerf challenge and movies. A water war and beach day are also planned, and skimboarding lessons led by Alley Oop at Herring Point. All activities are free, and registration is required for teen programs due to space limitations. For more information and to register, go to tinyurl.com/LPLSummerTeen22.

“We’re diving into an incredible summer here at the library,” said Jennifer Noonan, children’s librarian. “Every week is full of activities for all ages with so much to explore. Best of all, we are able to offer all of these programs for free. We can’t wait to see you here this summer!”
