The Lyft driver at the center of a fatal crash that killed a man July 24 south of Dewey Beach has been located and is cooperating, police said.

“No charges have been filed at this time, and we do not release the names of those involved unless they have been charged,” said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police. “Whether or not charges will be filed will be determined as the investigation unfolds. This may take several months as the case continues to be investigated.”

Meanwhile, the Maryland man struck and killed south of Dewey Beach July 24 has been identified as a former staff employee for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo sent condolences to the family of Sidney Wolf July 26 on Twitter.

“Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news. Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers,” Cuomo tweeted.

According to Linkedin, Wolf worked from 2019 to 2021 as associate director of federal affairs for Cuomo, and was recently working as consultant in Montgomery County, Md.

A GoFundMe account set up by family friends to raise $75,000 to support Wolf’s wife and daughters has raised more than $62,000 as of July 27.

Wolf and five others were headed to a home in Bethany Beach at 1:44 a.m., July 24, when, police said, the group got into a disagreement with their Lyft driver. The driver stopped the vehicle south of Dewey Beach in the middle of the southbound Route 1 left lane and demanded all six passengers get out. As the passengers got out of the vehicle, police said, a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by a man, 27, approached the Lyft car in the left lane, and it changed lanes to avoid striking it. Police said the Toyota driver failed to see Wolf standing in the roadway when the left front of the Toyota struck him. The Toyota driver immediately pulled over after the crash; the Lyft driver fled southbound on Route 1, police said.

Wolf was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other five passengers were not injured after exiting the Lyft vehicle, police said.
