UNICO chapters around the nation are proud to be associated with perpetuating the name of Brian Piccolo. His courage in the face of serious illness has been a continuous inspiration for millions of people of all ages who are determined to achieve their goals.
UNICO Delaware District 1 and the Rehoboth Area Chapter will host the ninth annual Brian Piccolo Award ceremony at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at St. Edmond Parish Hall, Rehoboth Beach.
Nominees must be Sussex County scholar-athletes who are of Italian heritage, have shown outstanding improvement in athletics and are graduating from secondary school. Senior applicants are nominated by their team and school staff, and must exhibit the qualities modeled by Brian Piccolo in his life and career: courage, friendship, loyalty, teamwork, dedication, sense of humor and anti-bias. Application packets have been sent to all Sussex County high schools. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, Oct. 21.
The keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony will be Adrianna Hahn. An accomplished athlete at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington and Villanova University, Hahn is now a successful coach and businesswoman with her own basketball training camps, Hahn Hoops LLC. In her talk, Hahn hopes to encourage Sussex County student-athletes to pursue their dreams and overcome any odds they face. She will share her experience overcoming several knee injuries to achieve an outstanding basketball career, winning state championships, All-time Player of the Year, and many scholarships to play at Division I universities.
All nominees will be honored at the ceremony; they will receive gifts totaling over $200 and tickets to the award ceremony/dinner for themselves and guests. A donation from UNICO Delaware of $1,000 will be given to the winner’s team to benefit their program and teammates.
