Yoder perfect in Royals victory over Wildcats

April 13, 2023

Delmarva Christian senior Kaylan Yoder pitched the Royals to their seventh win in a row with an 8-0 perfect-game victory over Delmar Tuesday, April 11 in Georgetown.

Yoder struck out 19 Wildcats batters and helped herself at the plate, going yard in the second inning and knocking in two RBIs. She went 2-for-3 on the day. Royals senior second baseman Lily Fetterman also went 2-for-3, garnering two RBIs. Lydia Woods slammed a hit to center and cleared the bases, scoring three RBIs. Rachel Hall also picked up an RBI.

Yoder faced all 21 batters and threw 61 strikes.

“I thought about it a little (being a perfect game) throughout the game,” said Yoder. “I just tried to keep it out of my mind.”

“We’ve had a tough time scoring runs, so we practiced the whole two hours yesterday on hitting,” said Royals head coach Rachel Fetterman. “Start to finish, we worked in three hitting stations and we set a goal for this game. The girls talked and shared a lot, and they set a goal of five runs. Even the girls that got out at the plate, their at-bat appearances were better.“

The Royals will put their undefeated record on the line Friday, April 14, as they welcome Archbishop Spalding to the Delmarva Christian diamond.
