Let’s ensure students, staff are safe in schools

May 7, 2023

Safety must be paramount in our schools. To date, the Cape Henlopen School District has only three officers for the nine current and soon to be 10 school buildings. Only last week, the Cape school board discussed a School Resource Officer or constable in each building.

This has been a priority for Shawn Lovenguth since he decided to run. So it is great the CHSD board is finally considering this safety priority, but how interesting that this initiative has been discussed by the board since 2017. It was discussed during the April 27 board meeting, conveniently, the last one before the May 9 election!

Too many issues have gone unresolved during Jessica Tyndall’s seven years as a board member. This inaction has gone on for far too long. It is time to retire the incumbent and elect Shawn Lovenguth. We must protect our faculty, staff and students. Shawn Lovenguth is going to be sure the board follows through on this important safety issue and get it fully funded. Let’s be sure our students and staff are safe in all the Cape schools.
