May 13 is an important vote for two positions on the Lewes Board of Public Works. The responses from Barbara Curtis and Preston Lee to the Cape Gazette’s questions regarding wastewater treatment, the current strengths and weaknesses of BPW, the use of renewable energy and ways to mitigate sea-level rise make it clear that Lewes would be best served by a vote for both of them. I encourage all voters to read their responses.
Curtis has a master’s degree in environmental science with 40 years of environmental management experience. She currently is active on the BPW Mitigation Committee and at BPW workshops focusing on long-range wastewater treatment.
Lee has served on the BPW for 12 years as president, vice president and is the current secretary. He is a current member of the BPW Mitigation Committee. If you have ever dropped off toxic/hazardous waste material at the biannual BPW designated site, know that Lee instituted that program to protect our waterways and land. As a professional engineer with years of experience, he has designed wastewater treatment plants in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and understands the myriad technical, administrative and financial concerns involved in devising the best plans.
Curtis and Lee have the encyclopedic knowledge and extensive experience to confront the current and future challenges facing BPW. We need their input to implement safe, sustainable, long-term solutions.
