Lewes Fire Department kicks off fund drive

July 21, 2023

It is time for the Lewes Fire Department Annual Fund Drive.

Your donation is very important. We are a volunteer organization employing a career staff

In 2022, we answered 6,935 calls for service – 943 for fire and rescue and 5,992 EMS calls. This was an increase of more than 10% from 2021

Do you really know where the money for this comes from

• 33.1% - EMS and rescue billing

• 18.4% - Donations and ambulance policy purchase

• 16% - Fire and health insurance taxes

• 13.6% - Sussex County taxes and permits

• 7.9% - Delaware taxes

• 5.7% - Ticket money

• 3.2% - City of Lewes and Lewes Board of Public Works grants

• 2.1% - Fundraising and misc income.

Where is funding used?

• 48% - Paid career staff

• 24.9% - Operations

• 21.8% - Equipment replacement

• 5.3% - Debt service.

Our volunteers work hard to keep you safe. It is getting busier every day and we need your financial support. Can you imagine what it would cost to fully staff your emergency service

Without your support, our ability to provide the same level of service will be limited. We answer 100% of your calls for help, and only 25% of Lewes Fire District property owners have donated
