It is with ironic amusement that I read your [July 25] lead article on the proposed new Sussex County subdivision standards.
As a retired developer from an adjacent state, I find Sussex County Council continually ignores the one significant development factor that continues to cause ongoing misery here – roadway systems and traffic. As a former developer, the first and primary criteria we faced was adequate public facilities.
Actually, it was the main hurdle we faced. In my 12 years of living in Lewes, I have seen little, if any, regard with respect to meeting this standard, and significant public complaint regarding the current issues with traffic as a result.
Lest I be labeled a got-mine resident, I point out that my 12 years here have been in a home existing at the time in Lewes.
I have no raise-the-drawbridge illusions. I fully understand the fantastic attractions drawing people to Sussex County, but I just wish council would be more vigilant and attentive to the voices of the constituents they already represent, and establish more realistic requirements for the huge subdivisions they continue to approve.
I have little confidence, however, that will happen. Need more irony? Juxtapose the article with the editorial cartoon on page six. Enough said!
