Van Williamson and friends to perform during Rehoboth jazz festival

Music meets the beach – everyone’s invited
September 27, 2023

At the beach, clouds scud, dolphins splash, kids screech, sun peeps, lifeguards signal, teens bask, smells waft, cameras focus, umbrellas shade, waves crash, spray moistens, memories surface, sand sifts, crabs nibble, seagulls screech, traffic clusters, porpoises breach, vendors hawk, jazz lingers ....

Which reminds me about one of the most fun musical events around these parts that’s coming around on the git-tar in mid-October. It’s the umpteenth annual Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, rearing its musical head this year from Oct. 12 to 15. Are there a bunch of musicians honing their chops on a wide variety of jazz standards and other tunes from the 20th and 21st centuries? Sure! Are they counting on you to attend their performances so they can continue to survive without working a real job? Of course! Are they gonna play so many notes that after awhile, you won’t be able to distinguish a melodic minor solo from a chicken pot pie? Ya think?

In case you’re wondering who’s attending: jazz freaks, music geeks, dignitaries, secretaries, mercenaries, cooks, crooks, guitar pickers, boot lickers, soothsayers, truth slayers, kids, footballers, tomb raiders, upbraiders, hordes, lords, sightseers, scammers, spammers, spine tinglers, mind blowers, big daddies, lovers, movers, shakers, jokers, smokers, midnight tokers, hustlers, bustlers, pinups, high-heeled sneakers, peepers, creepers, screamers, schemers, dreamers, chocolate eaters, unctuous greeters, plain dealers, train riders, food fighters, cast-asiders, dude abiders, cobblestoners, tobbleroners, sunglasses, young lasses, real lifers ... and you.

See you there with my trio at the following dates and times: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, Chesapeake & Maine, 316 Rehoboth Ave., with Eddie Eatmon and Dean Haemel; 1 to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14, Dos Locos, 208 Rehoboth Ave., with Bob Abbott and Wes Crawford; 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 14, Somewhere restaurant, 52 Baltimore Ave., with Bob Abbott and Wes Crawford; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, Back Porch Café, 59 Rehoboth Ave., with Eddie Eatmon and Wes Crawford.

I’m Van Williamson and I approve this message.
