I would like to read the Cape Gazette one day and not read about a new housing development being approved, apartment complex being approved or another Royal Farms being approved. When is it going to stop? Evidently our politicians don't listen to the people they represent, because everyone you talk to wants the building of new construction to stop, yet our voices are not heard. The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission keeps approving new construction, and evidently only listens to the developers. Maybe the members are all from the west side of the county so they couldn’t care less about the traffic issues, environmental issues, wildlife issues, and the need for more schools, more police, more fire and ambulance personnel, more doctors and more dentists. It is time to take a deep breath and give it a rest for a period of time so the infrastructure, medical professionals and first responders can catch up with all the new construction before any new approvals are made. Look at Millsboro. It’s a growing community, yet for 20 years, they have been surveying and spending millions of dollars for a bypass and nothing as of yet. You can't keep going with new construction and think improving an intersection solves the problem.
I forgot one more important thing: Suppose we had to evacuate because of an approaching hurricane, or worse, a tsunami; how many people do you think would get out in time, especially the people on Long Neck Road and Old Landing Road? They are just two examples of the roads that have added thousands of people with the same single-road structure.
For once, Sussex County Council and the planning & zoning commission need to listen to the people on the eastern side of the county and stop approving all the new construction.
